Use of standard components
Use of standard components from any manufacturer. The RFID tags are free to choose among the cheapest or most suitable products available. If the IT components are equipped with RFID tags at the factory by the manufacturer, those tags can directly be used.
Deployment is possible at any time
Deployment is possible at any time and as a co-existence with existing bar code solutions. A data center operator can e.g. tag all new components with an RFID tag that holds the corresponding bar code information. As all racks—both new and existing ones—can be successively equipped with the Cavea system a significant increase in efficiency, automation and cost savings can be achieved in a phased approach.
Installation in any 19-inch rack
Installation in any 19-inch rack—even during operation—does not represent a hurdle for widespread use since the near-field antenna in the rack can be adjusted mechanically and only a power and network connection is required for the RFID reader. Alternatively, the reader could be powered via USB port of the rack console.
Flexible and scalable upgrade and expansion options
Flexible and scalable upgrade and expansion options without touching or replacing installed Cavea hardware components, since the functionality is mapped in the firmware of the reader or in the application software. Through the consistent use of EPCglobal standard interfaces different business units, e.g. financial administration and procurement, can directly access asset and tracking data. This yields a value for the customer that goes far beyond inventorying and tracking.
Dynamic capacity planning
Dynamic capacity planning is possible in countless ways. The master data of the specific rack type allows the calculation of available free space. A more sophisticated implementation answers questions like: Which rack has the lowest power consumption and a free slot of 4U? The relevance in the context Green IT is obvious.
